Christmas Traditions

It's not Christmas for us until we set up the Christmas village. We do this every year. Henry bought it for us for Christmas one year. It must of been at least 10 years ago. The houses are chipped and now the lights dont work anymore but we still set it up. This year Shirley went all out and bought some people and CHristmas trees to add to the village. They even have an ice rink.
One of the Christmases I remember the most was just after we had just moved to New Orleans. I had been laid off from Associates Finance Company near Halloween and we had just moved to New Orleans. The first paycheck I had got from the hospital was on December 18 - exactly one week before Christmas. That is how we started the tradition of buying the tree one week before Christmas.
We also started the tradition of driving around and looking at the CHristmas lights that year. We couldn't afford to do anything else. Back then companies didnt set up the large light displays that they do today. The person that owns Popeyes did to thank the people for eating his (terrible) spicy chicken. Traffic would be backed up for blocks and blocks of people wanting to see the lights. I heard years later the neighbors sued him to make him stop because they couldnt get out of their driveways at night.
What are some of the traditions that you all celebrate? What makes Christmas Christmas for you?
